Miss Earth Florida
2011 Nicole Kelley wins the national title! She will now represent the U.S. in Thailand
Daytona Beach native Nicole Kelley, 22, won the prestigious Miss Earth United States title last Thursday
and will now travel to Thailand to represent the nation in the world finals of Miss Earth, the only pageant in the world dedicated
100 percent to environmental awareness and humanitarian efforts.
Kelley represented Daytona Beach at the state pageant and was crowned Miss Earth Florida 2011 on June
26 after a 3 day competition in Miami. This victory gave her the ticket to represent Florida at nationals where she competed
with - and won - over ladies from across the country. She earned the highest scores in environmental awareness, private interview,
swimsuit, gown, overall and on stage question and was crowned Miss Earth United States 2011 on August 3. Miss Earth is one of the largest
pageants in the world with over 85 countries competing each year. The host country this year is Thailand where contestants
will spend four weeks participating in different activities and tours around that nation, with the crowning of the new Miss
Earth on November 12 during an international live telecast.
Although Florida representatives have earned a spot in the top 10 in the last 3 years, it is the first
time that Florida wins the national title and gets to represent the United States at the international finals. Kelley will
also be able to travel around the United States educating others on environmentally friendly ways of living for the next 12
months. Kelley
is a graduate of the University of Florida in Food and Resource Economics, specializing in International Policy. Her pageant
platform is Food for Thought, agricultural education for children.
