Sparano, while working in a Connecticut restaurant as a teen, lost his sight for nearly a month after hot grease from a deep-fryer accidentally splashed in his eyes. To this day, his eyes water excessively and are extremely sensitive to light. That is why he often wears sunglasses when others might not. It is why lights are rarely on in his office. The look happens to make for easy jokes. But the look also reminds that Sparano seeing at all might be what some would even consider a miracle.

He’s so cool!

Who wears sunglasses at night?  Rappers, Rock Stars, Record Moguls, and the head coach of the Miami Dolphins!

Actually, if we weren’t the worst team in the NFL it would be cool, like Bill Belichick’s hoodie or Jim Tressel’s sweater vest.  Fans would start wearing them to night games to show their support.  Canes fans are wearing ties now because new head coach Al Golden dons one.  Yes, if you’re good it’s cool, when you’re bad, anything that makes you stand out looks ridiculous.

And it’s a shame.   From everything I’ve seen and heard Tony Sparano is a nice guy.  It’s not often that an offensive lineman makes his way to be an NFL head coach.  But soon it will come to an end.  Although some things may not be his fault (Brandon Marshall dropping touchdown passes), it’s still his responsibility.

I just wish nice guys could finish on top more often.  Why is it usually the assholes like Belichick and Rex Ryan that are successful?

Now Dolphins owner Stephen Ross wants Bill Cowher as the new head coach.  He had one championship in fifteen years.  Pittsburgh replaced him and couldn’t be happier.  Aren’t there any good up and coming coaches?  Would they want to come here?
