Meet the Marlins

A player by player look at our current lineup by usual batting order

Chris Coghlan LF – 2009 National League Rookie of the Year.  Struggled at the beginning but quickly getting back to last years form.  Nice player but aggressive at the plate, 316 OBP doesn’t get it done in the leadoff spot.

We haven’t had a true lead off hitter since Juan Pierre.

Gaby Sanchez  1B– The theory is that the easiest position to play is first base.  Great hitters that aren’t great fielders end up at first base.  A 267 average with 4 home runs wouldn’t earn him a spot on any other major league team.  However, he’s young and improving so we could have a nice future player.

Hanley Ramirez  SSArrogant, lazy, and overrated.

Jorge Cantu  3B– Team RBI leader and overall good guy.  Seems to always come thru when we need him.

Dan Uggla 2B - Soon to be the Marlins all time home run leader.  Though started badly he’s turned in to a very solid defensive player as well.

Cody Ross RF – A fan favorite and deservedly so.  Dives for balls, obviously gives 100% at all times.  Nice guy, good player, this is who the Marlin’s should be offering a long term contract to.

Ronny Paulino C – Marlin’s have always had great catchers and this year is no different.  When John Baker returns from the disabled list we’ll have two.

Cameron Maybin CF – Good guy who gives it his all and has flashes of greatness, but will be the odd man out when Mike Stanton is called up.

Josh Johnson RHP – Best player on the team.

The rest of the starting pitching is good but gets weak at the end of the rotation which is normal for any team.  Leo Nunez has done better as a closer but middle relief has been mostly awful.

Overall they’re what their record shows, a 500 team.  If Mike Stanton turns out to be the star everyone predicts, the Marlins are a couple of pitchers away from being a very good team.
