Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) Report June 2010 By Captain Jorge Fernandez
My two buddies Hector and Ricky called Monday morning because they wanted to do an evening dolphin (mahi mahi) trip. We met at the marina at around 5:00pm loaded the boat a off we went. After spending about half an hour looking for live bait and nothing to show for our efforts we decided to head offshore with a dozen frozen Ballyhoos and a bag of frozen Spanish Sardines. At around 6:15pm we ran into three Frigate Birds working so scattered weeds between 600’ and 700’ of water and it was game on. In the next hour we caught 25 dolphins and released about 15, the action was fast and furious. Once everything settled down we clean the boat a bit and decided hit a few of the county wrecks with butterfly jigs. We jigged a few of the wrecks for about 45 minutes and only added a 10 pound kingfish to the box. We were back at the marina by 8:30pm. It was an awesome evening on the water with great results and even better friends. Fishing will continue to improve; this is my favorite times of year to fish for big kingfish, dolphin (mahi mahi) and black fin tunas and mutton snappers. I still have days available in June and July, give me a call if you want to get out and enjoy the great fishing South Florida has to offer. REMEMBER: Summer is here and it gets too hot to fish during the day. An evening Snapper fishing trip is a great way to put some good eating fish on the dinner table without getting overheated and breaking the bank. Give me a call to inquire about our evening yellow tail and mangrove snapper trips. Mention this report and receive 10% off a full day charter. Captain Jorge Fernandez 786-229-2847 Cellular
