Fishing Report - December 2011
“Take a Kid Fishing”
In all my fishing reports, I always use
the closing statement…. “Take a kid fishing, let’s pass it on.” In this report I wanted to share
several trips where this statement expresses just that and do a recap of the year where taking kids fishing was the focus
of the trip. Growing up it felt great when my dad would take me fishing, hunting, or go to a park to play baseball. Spending
a special moment with that special someone is something they will remember forever. It really makes me
happy when I get a call from a parent wanting to book a trip to take their children fishing. Here are a few trips with some
wonderful parents and their great kids.
In April, I took a father, Felix, and
his 7 year old son David fishing, along on this trip was Felix’s father in-law and brother in-law. It
was a great day with favorable conditions. Thought it would be fun to get the young boy on Spanish Mackerel and then anchor
up over a wreck to get some snappers. They had a great time!
In July, I took the Applod family out
with their two boys and their aunt. The forecast did not look good. The weather channel was calling for 2 to 4 foot seas in
the morning, increasing to 3 to 5 foot seas in the afternoon. I was a little apprehensive about taking the kids out in these
conditions, but the kids were looking forward for some fishing time. The plan was to get on some Blackfin tuna and dolphin.
It turned out to be a good day after all.
In September, I took the Alvarado family
out with their two boys and the mother's brother with his son. The conditions were perfect, 2 feet or less with some afternoon
showers. They wanted to take some fish home for dinner and have the kids have fun fishing from a boat for the first time.
I headed south and anchored up over a wreck in about 110 feet. The whole family had a great time and took plenty of fish home
for dinner.
December can be crazy sometimes; as rough
as 4 to 6 foot seas, Sailfish light up and like these conditions. Unfortunately, smaller boats may have some problems getting
out to the edge to target sailfish. Good thing that the Spanish Mackerel are in good numbers in shallower water. So get out
there, be safe and have some fun.
In closing, I want to wish everyone
a Joyful Holiday and a Happy New Year.
Don't forget............Take a kid fishing, let’s pass it on.
