Highly-acclaimed New York based theater/film actress Angelica Torn will star at the New Theatre in Coral Gables, Florida in a production of playwright Shirley Lauro's The Radiant, playing the lead role of Marie Curie. Torn will appear in The Radiant from March 25-April 17, 2011.

The Radiant, making its World Premiere at New Theatre, tells the story of the tempestuous, dramatic life of Marie Curie, one of the world's first recognized woman scientists, whose discovery and isolation of radium earned her two Nobel Prizes and revolutionized science forever, as she ushered in "The Atomic Age" and the first cure for cancer. Opened in 1986, The New Theatre is now entering their 25th Anniversary season as a multi-cultural theatre producing Nouveau Classic works, blending both new theatrical works and classics. Always innovative, New Theatre also commissioned and presented the World Premiere of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize winning play Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz.

Both Torn and the New Theatre felt it important to present The Radiant this year, as the countries of France and Poland have declared 2011 “The Year of Marie Curie” and the  “International Year of Chemistry”! This year marks 100 years since Polish-born scientist Curie won the Nobel Prize in chemistry.

Angelica Torn, whose mother was the legendary Geraldine Page and whose father is veteran actor Rip Torn, just wrapped up a sold-out limited engagement production, both in New York and Los Angeles, of the Pulitzer Prize winning Eugene O’Neil classic Anna Christie, at The Actors Studio in both cities.

Her Torn Page Productions presented Anna Christie, along with The Actors Studio, with Tony Award nominee Wilson Milam directing. Angelica starred in the lead role, along with actor Con Horgan, Timothy Doyle, and Denise Lute. After the limited engagement run, Torn also did a special encore benefit performance of the play which brought out various celebrities including Al Pacino and Sopranos actor Federico Castelluccio, etc. Angelica Torn, who became an Actors Studio board member this past year, joins on illustrious list of actresses who played Anna Christie, including Celeste Holm, Liv Ullman and Natasha Richardson.

In addition to starring in Anna Christie, Angelica Torn also recently appeared at the highly-anticipated Celebration of Tennessee Williams event at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, joining Jessica Lange, Olympia Dukakis and others, where she did a reading from A Streetcar Named Desire with Alec Baldwin.

Angelica Torn also recently celebrated the success of the independent feature film she starred in and directed, Lucky Days, with Federico Castelluccio, Anne Jackson, her dad Rip Torn and Marilyn Sokol. Lucky Days, produced through her Torn Page Productions, was shot entirely on location in Coney Island and went on to win the Gold Remy Award for Best Feature at the Houston International Film Festival/Wordfest and Best Feature at the Coney Island Film Festival.
